From Plan to Progress

Specialist Rehabilitation Occupational Therapy (SROT) is where rehabilitation becomes real. It's the delivery of personalised therapy, as recommended in the Rehabilitation Needs Assessment.

Overview

What is Specialist Rehabilitation Occupational Therapy?

SROT supports clients to rebuild their physical, cognitive, emotional, and wellbeing abilities following injury. It helps them to return to their roles and responsibilities, or, where full recovery is not possible, to re-engage in meaningful activities that matter to them.

This isn’t about ticking off sessions, it’s structured therapy focused on several goals at a time, using real-life, day-to-day activities to make meaningful progress.

  • In the client’s own environments (home, community, or workplace)
  • Purposeful activity-based sessions
  • Built into everyday routines
  • Liaison with other members of the MDT to transfer and embed learning

SROT based rehabilitation is about building independence, not dependence. The aim is to support clients to regain their independence at a realistic targeted pace.

What SROT Based Therapy Can Include:

  • Functional rehabilitation
  • Improving physical abilities
  • Cognitive rehabilitation
  • Planning and pacing skills for daily tasks
  • Fatigue management
  • Home and self-care routines
  • Community based rehabilitation
  • Transport
  • Equipment
  • Home adaptations
  • Pain management
  • Vocational rehabilitation

Coordinating the Multi-Disciplinary Team

When a Case Manager isn’t involved, the Specialist Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist can take the lead in bringing the right professionals together at the right time. They help ensure everyone is working towards shared goals, with a clear understanding of the client’s wider needs.

This joined-up approach reduces overwhelm, supports smoother rehab delivery, and helps embed progress across all areas of the client’s life.

What Progress Looks Like

Progress looks different for everyone. For some, it’s returning to work. For others, it might be preparing a meal, managing fatigue, getting outside, or simply feeling like themselves again.

Clients who complete their recommended therapy regularly achieve their goals, with progress measured through structed outcome tools, and goal reviews in monthly update reports.

Therapy That Fits Life

Rehabilitation is delivered through meaningful daily activities, from preparing meals to managing fatigue or returning to work. Sessions are purposeful, practical, and woven into daily routines.

Goals That Drive Progress

Rehabilitation is shaped by what matters most to the client. Several goals are progressed at once, using structured sessions designed to build confidence and lasting independence.

Everyone Working Together

SROTs coordinate with professionals, support networks, and services to ensure everyone involved is working towards shared goals, reducing overwhelm and helping embed progress across everyday life.

Think Therapy 1st provide, clear, client-focused rehabilitation that actually made a difference. Their communication was excellent throughout, and the reports gave a real sense of the client’s progress. I wouldn’t hesitate to refer again

Senior Associate, Personal Injury Solicitor

Think Therapy 1st have been pivotal in identifying, recommending and delivering a first-class rehabilitation package. The return to work was of the upmost importance and a significant goal for our client. Emma has been a vital linchpin in the rehabilitation process for our client and equally valued and trusted by both solicitors in the case to ensure the best possible input and outcome

Claimant’s solicitor

Think Therapy are different. They are not case managers in the recognised sense of the term. They are hands on therapists that work with injured claimants/clients to help maximise their potential. I have used Think Therapy on a number of my claims. While they are ‘claimant focussed’ and work closely with the client and their family, they don’t attempt to turn the case into something it isn’t and, refreshingly, will say when they think their job is done or can do no more.
